Andreas Eduardo Frank: Hear it Coming

‘The future belongs to those who hear it coming’a quote from David Bowieis the starting point for ‘Hear It Coming’, a full-length immersive sound performance.

Together with the SWR Experimental Studio, Andreas Eduardo Frank, Marcus Weiss, Uli Fussenegger, Sarah Maria Sun, Jeanne Larrouturou and Thomas Giger are developing a walk-in sound space made up of people, instruments, loudspeakers and light. The audience and musicians share a common space without a fixed sweet spot; above them floats a matrix-like speaker system.

The sound takes on a physical presence: it wanders, transforms and unfolds plastically in space. Individual hearing recedes in favour of an intense collective perceptiona recalibration of the senses.

In six songs, restlessness becomes the engine of alertness. Inspiration is provided by forms of movement and sound phenomena from the animal kingdom: percussion, electronics and spatial sound are reminiscent of wing beats, swarms and erratic flight patterns. The starting point for the composition is joint improvisations, from which personal material is condensed into an overall composition.
