Daniel Gloger

countertenor

The countertenor Daniel Gloger inspires composers of our time to new sounds like hardly any other singer in his field. He is passionate in his search for the ideal interpretation of a work, as he is in historical and classical music.

He has a particularly close working relationship with Lucia Ronchetti, Jennifer Walshe, Georg Friedrich Haas, Bernhard Lang and Enno Poppe. A regular guest at European festivals of new music, he has sung over 200 world premieres, including at the Ultraschall Festival Berlin, Musica Viva Munich, Klangspuren Schwaz, Tage für Neuen Musik Zürich, Festival d’Automne Paris and Warsaw Autumn.

With great wit and a characteristic voice, Daniel Gloger is a sought-after performer in contemporary music theater. Among his outstanding works here are the title role in Adriana Hölszky’s »Der gute Gott von Manhattan« (Schwetzinger SWR Festspiele, 2004 and Semperoper Dresden, 2005) and the title role in the world premiere of Bernhard Lang’s »MontezumaFallender Adler« at the Nationaltheater Mannheim in 2010. As part of the Schwetzingen SWR Festival, he successfully premiered the opera trilogy »Bluthaus« (2011), »Thomas« (2013) and »Koma« (2016) by Georg Friedrich Haas and librettist Händl Klaus. »Koma« was chosen as the world premiere of the year 2016 by the critics of Opernwelt magazine.

Against the background of his numerous experiences as a soloist in musical theater, Daniel Gloger developed the scenic solo project »NACKT« in 2013. In the world premiere of Bernhard Lang’s »Mondparsifal« (director: Jonathan Meese, conductor: Simone Young) he sang the title role of Parzefool at the Wiener Festwochen 2017, the German premiere took place at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele.

At the invitation of the 2018 Munich Biennale, he created the solo evening »Up Close & Personal« (Kaj Duncan David/Troels Primdahl), which was performed at the Eclat Festival and the Aarhus Festival in 2019, and at Musica Strasbourg in 2021.

A native of Stuttgart, Germany, he completed his vocal studies with Donald Litaker at the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe in 2005 with a concert degree. His discography includes CD recordings with pianist Peter von Wienhardt, the Saarbrücken Chamber Choir, Ensemble 2e2m Paris, the composers and performers of stock11.de, and the Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart.

Currently, Daniel Gloger is preparing various world premieres and revivals composed for him in intensive collaboration with the composers*: Michael Maierhof’s »Cåold Sweat« and Marcus Schmickler’s »Schreber songs« will be performed again in Dublin and Berlin. The collaboration with Andreas H.H. Suberg goes into the next round after compositions about Leonardo da Vinci’s prophecies with the new music theater »O infelici amanti«. Samir Odeh-Tamimi’s music theater »Philoktet« with the Zafraan Ensemble Berlin and »O Seufzen, Heulen, Herzensknall« by Gordon Kampe with Lini Gong (soprano) and the Radar Ensemble Lübeck will also be presented again in Antwerp and Berlin after their successful premieres.

Since the fall of 2019, Daniel Gloger has held a permanent position as a lecturer at the Bern University of the Arts.
