Samir Odeh-Tamimi: Εντροπία Endropía
für Percussion solo, Elektronik und Video
Samir Odeh-Tamimi (born in 1970 in Jaljulia near Tel Aviv) gained his musical socialisation in various ensembles for traditional Arabic music. Fascinated and inspired by both European classical music and the aesthetics of New Music, he came to Germany at the age of 22 and studied composition and musicology, also engaging with compositional role models such as Giacinto Scelsi and Iannis Xenakis. He thus developed his musical language from influences of both the Western European avant-garde and Arabic musical practice. His work encompasses a complex spectrum of diverse vocal and instrumental works, which is also shaped by his regular collaboration with ensembles such as the Neuen Vocalsolisten and Zafraan Ensemble. Following his highly acclaimed music theatre works ‘Leila and Madschnun’ and ‘L’Apokalypse Arabe I and II’, Samir Odeh-Tamimi composed his fourth music theatre work, ‘Philoktet’, which premiered at ECLAT 2023. Commissioned by the Biennale di Venezia, the sextet ‘Roaïkron’ was premiered by the Christian Benning Percussion Group and awarded the prestigious Italian critics’ prize Premio Abbiati in the category ‘Novità per l’Italia’ in 2024.
