Josep Sanz

Josep Sanz was born in 1977. He studied composition in Barcelona and Stuttgart. His teachers included Albert Sardà, Manuel Hidalgo, Helmut Lachenmann, and Caspar Johannes Walter. For several years, Josep Sanz has focused his music on the implementation of epistemological ideas. This necessarily includes the exploration of societal processes and mass-psychological phenomena. In the broadest sense, Josep Sanz is interested in understanding how collective and individual identities interact and emerge in different cultures. Applied to his music, this means that Sanz often employs a non-linear musical discourse in his works, where different situations are directly confronted with one another.
