Brahim Kerkour

Brahim Kerkour (*1980) is an Anglo-Moroccan composer. He studied with Fabien Levy, Tristan Murail, and Noel Zahler at Columbia University in New York, where he also earned his doctorate. Today, he lives and works in London. In his compositional work, Kerkour is rooted in a musical aesthetic that emphasises the sensory experience of sound. Therefore, his approach to acoustic-sensory phenomena focuses on the experimental exploration of sonic materials and the ways sound propagates within these materials, considering kinetic, tactile, and spatial criteria. In response to the diminishing appreciation of listening and its currently subordinate role, he aims to create listening experiences that are free from distractions that could divert attention from the act of listening. Recently, his works have been performed at ECLAT, MaerzMusik Berlin, the Mata Festival in New York, and Bridgewater Hall (Manchester), and broadcast by SWR and France Musique.
