Many composers who have written for the Neue Vocalsolisten come not only from Italy or the Mediterranean region, but also from Switzerland. This evening is dedicated to them. Mischa Käser opens it with a musical parlando, from which bizarre nonsense dramolettes develop. Nadir Vassena (Shakespeare’s Othello), Elena Rykova (Yoko Ogawa’s Island of Lost Memory) and Oscar Bianchi’s fast-paced narrative, in which he uses Foster-Wallace’s Infinite Jest, among other things, to find out the reasons ‘that prevent humanity from recognising itself and finding its way to consciousness’, deal with real dramas from world literature.
