in THE IRRITATED CITY. A Celebration of the Arts
For In the Beginning, the Marc Sinan Company goes in search of the origin of the world in Mali and examines scientific and mythological creation stories from West African and Europe.
The contemporary composition of traditional and sacred music aims to find out what connects different cultural contexts. The resulting friction between the different narratives leads to the core of cultural diversity and the artistic confrontation is explosive and relevant at the same time.
The musicians of the newly founded Ensemble BlonBa for contemporary music in Bamako, Mali, play traditional instruments and are outstanding players in the young Malian music scene. In collaboration with the Stuttgart vocal soloists and musicians of the Marc Sinan Company, new playing and singing techniques are explored and enriched with new harmonic and tonal material. The aim is to explore a possible sonic avantgarde that transcends any cultural attribution. The production is completed by the new creation of the Malian choreographer Kettly Noël and the video works of the artist Adrian Figueroa.
