»The Kingdom of Music–EARTH«, this is what Ingeborg Bachmann wrote many years ago on a telegram to H. W. Henze. In 2018, the composer Saskia Bladt and the artist and stage designer Anna-Sophie Lugmeier take up Ingeborg Bachmann’s note, transform it into the title of their biennial project and write the following lines to the audience of the festival: »A new opera is being created as a kind of vehicle that has become rare or even almost forgotten, with the help of which an advance to a regno della musica seems possible again. Together with you and the singers of the Neue Vocalsolisten from Stuttgart, we would like to invent this new opera during the entire festival period–in private. During a shared dinner, a breakfast, a mountain festival, a concert, in silence or in the course of a child’s birthday party, people, themes, sounds and tones will collide. The essence of New Music Theater is nourished here from collective participation, from the encounters in the daily emergence and drying up of private dialogues. To finally take shape.
