This project was born of coincidence: in a lecture on different representations of animals throughout music history, Steffen Krebber accidentally played back two works by Clément Janequin and Carola Bauckholt simultaneously, discovered remarkable confluences and coherence in the combined result–and felt the urge to explore this further. Calefax and the Neue Vocalsolisten, two ensembles with an equal taste for experimentation, were happy to join in with the project and invited three further composers to contribute to this adventure. In two interpolated virtuoso ‘showpieces’ by Mayke Nas andBrigitta Muntendorf the musicians of the Calefax Reed Quintet also will introduce themselves as soloists.
