For almost six decades, Dieter Schnebel explored the artistic possibilities of the human voice before composing his »Utopias« for the Neue Vocalsolisten in 2014. Schnebel was not concerned in this music theater with »certain utopias or even with all of them«that, he found as clear-sighted as it was modest, »would again be utopian.« Rather, he was concerned with »utopia in its essence. Dieter Schnebel also wanted to accompany this performance in the «Summer in Stuttgart” 2018 in conversation and was looking forward to the re-encounter with one of his great heart pieces. Now the performance must take place in memoriam. Dieter Schnebel died on Whitsunday 2018 in his adopted home Berlin.

The festival is a cooperation of Akademie Schloss Solitude, ascolta, Musik der Jahrhunderte, Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellenden Kunst Stuttgart (HMDK), Stuttgarter Kammerorchester and Evang. Bildungszentrum Hospitalhof u. Hospitalkirche.

The festival is supported by the City of Stuttgart, the Innovation Fund Music of the City of Stuttgart and the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts of Baden-Württemberg.
