Isabel Mundry: Hey!
for voices and ensemble (2018)
Composition commissioned by SWR for the Donaueschinger Musiktage 2018
Neue Vocalsolisten
Ensemble Modern
Conductor Bas Wiegers
From the Donaueschingen Music Festival 2018, the Ensemble Modern brings three compositions that provide very different aesthetic answers to the questions of our time. Finding a language not for, but in reality is what video sound artist Brigitta Muntendorf sees as the task of today’s art. In her new work for live electronics and ensemble, she addresses the question of identity in an increasingly virtual world. Argentine-born Oscar Strasnoy has devoted himself to playing with musical quotations. They appear in his works like snatches of memory from the past and populate his scores. Isabel Mundry has also kept a curious eye on the present. She understands composing as an existential experience that begins with the visualization of the past. In her new piece, she incorporates the voices of the Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart for this purpose.
