A competition for the best recipe for duck with salt and a clear ‘no’ that gradually dissolves into music: the career of the Neue Vocalsolisten as a chamber ensemble for voices began in May 2000 with the legendary works of Lucia Ronchetti and Carola Bauckholt. And the two masters of vocal composition demonstrate how the comedy and tragedy of human existence can emerge from madrigal-like polyphony.
Jennifer Walshe was one of the first to utilise physical gestures as compositional material. With her interdisciplinary performances, in which she takes up and satirises patterns of human and social behaviour, she became a role model for an entire generation of composers. And with his miniature theatre piece ‘Herzstück’ based on Heiner Müller, Luca Francesconi makes a plea to »explore the depth of language beyond the phoneme. Because we are in the process of losing it.«
